Stitching or Restitching Your Book
to make it durable enough to last a lifetime

If pages are coming out of your book - this includes end papers - we will remove the cover and restitch it, either by hand if it less than 1 inch thick, or "oversew" the whole text block before attaching the new leather cover. Oversewing is done with special equipment at a local commercial bindery. Then we add new headbands and "super" (a porous cloth like cheesecloth, sometimes called "crash") to adhere the newly stitched spine to the new endpapers in order to securely attach the book to its covers.

***NOTE: Oversewing can also be used to stitch several books or journals together, turning several books into one. For example, I have combined an Old Testament in one translation with a New Testament in another resulting in a unique new bible. Professional journals are often combined into one volume. The books should be of similar sizes to begin with in order to look coherent. Call for details on this process.
