There were hundreds of books, no two alike, in the shop I had for several years in Cambridge, Mass. I have continued to invent new books to offer here.
My latest creation is the "Surprise Bible." Using the ancient gold-tooled leather fragments of bibles from the 1860's and 1880's, the book is embellished with two fragments, usually one from the New Testament, and one from the Old Testament, or two related ones. I have hidden one under another piece of leather - either the flap of the cover, a second leather cover, or the endpaper. It cannot be seen until you open the cover of the bible. This adds to the feeling that the Bible holds a very precious gift wrapped inside and away from prying eyes. I love the symbolism, and hope you do too.
