Ancient Bible Fragments
I found some gorgeous Family Bibles from the late 19th century with carved and gold-tooled leather covers. Since the pages were falling out and moldy, I rescued parts of the covers to use as embellishments for leather bibles I make to order. The first two pictures show how I remove each gold fragment and thin it down before adhering it to a new leather book. All the material on the back of the leather has to be "skived" or pared down on a slab of marble so it will not come loose from its new cover. I place the individual fragments in the position where it seems most in proportion to the cover - a couple of examples are shown below. I will remove the pictures as they are sold.
