I tried this on one of my old New Testaments, and loved it. I wrap the book with very rustic rough-edged pull-up leather, and rather than cross-stitching, I drill a seriers of small holes, and tie the with a series of individual frayed threads in varying lengths. This gives a rustic look to the book. Your book can't be more than inch thick.
